A test mule of WagonR Electric was spotted in India sporting Toyota wheels, suggesting that Toyota could add the EV to its lineup. This Toyota-badged WagonR Electric, however, may not be launched in India.
Maruti Suzuki has not been keen on launching a fully electric vehicle in India considering the high cost of EVs and the lack of a robust charging infrastructure. This is despite the fact that it has been testing 50 units of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV prototypes in India since 2018. These electric vehicles have been spotted on several occasions in the country and have been pointing towards India's largest carmaker jumping on the EV bandwagon.
However, the company has officially revealed that it will focus on hybrid and CNG vehicles in India for now. But it looks like WagonR electric may finally be launched in India, although under the Toyota brand name. By now we are sure that you are aware of the partnership between Toyota and Suzuki. As part of this collaboration, Maruti Suzuki has been supplying Glanza and Urban Cruiser to Toyota. And some reports now suggest that Suzuki could also provide WagonR Electric to the Japanese carmaker.
